Hospitals and Health Systems
Hospitals and health systems utilize ELM courses to educate their employed and/or credentialed medical staff about risk. Additionally, most clients agree that non-employee providers need to share in the risk that the hospital undertakes every time a patient walks through the door.
Ways to use ELM: For some clients, ELM courses are part of the credentialing agreement between the hospital and the credentialed physicians. For other clients, who self-insure part or all of their medical staff, ELM courses are part of a comprehensive and proactive loss prevention initiative. Many clients mandate ELM courses and/or offer a premium discount for participation.
Funding Your Program: Most hospitals and health systems fund ELM programs through their self-funded insurance entities. If your facility is interested in considering an ELM program, you may want to consider funding through your insurance trust, captive, or risk retention group.
